Electric charges and Asteroids
I was thinking that if many asteroids are loose collections of dust held together by the weak gravity they generate, then there couldn't be much of an electric charge on them or the dust particles would be repelled from like charges.
Could it be that if there were massive dust balls with large electric changes on them then they'd be hollow? Or fluffy sort of the way a kids hair stands up when touching a van de graff generator?
Wouldn't the solar winds almost certainly create large electric charges on anything in space?

Movement for public viewing of bills before being enactied in to law.
I call for a movement where we get our representatives to represent us. I mean i think the rules have been sort of vague up till now how our representatives get presented too us and how they are expected to represent us.
We get very little information on them before they vote. We don't get to officially test and measure there abilities. I guess we just must assume there degrees from 40 years ago are good enough.
But that is not the real point. The point is major bills keep getting run through before the public can read them. Before our commentary's can be heard.
I think for a bill to be legal there should to be a viewing time available where is bill is shared as a plain ASCII text document for x hours or x day before it can be officially signed in to law. This would be to give the general public discuss it before our "representative" can vote on it.
This discussion could be on the Blogs or the media it doesn't matter really. Instead they talked us to death on the bill were we all just burned out, then rammed something threw.
Same with the Patriot act and many other bill like these Christmas even ones. Now maybe this is political heresy breaking a long history of this sort of thing. But it's just not working any more.
I mean many of our representatives are reachable over e-mail, but there is no reverse channel where we can get information back as fast, one in which we can dictate our opinions to the representative and collectively review these bills that they don't.
Maybe provide some mechanism where we can assert some leverage on these guys like a financial bonus that we can add or subtract from when they are in agreement with the public votes over the web site. Many one that they political party is in control of such as there budget for the campaign.
Come to think of it we could even make a totally internet based political party, one in which everything is transacted collectively across the net. One in which any party affiliation would allow you to participate. Because your going to want to vote in the real election for someone you helped rise in an internet campaign.

It was autumn, and the Red Indians asked their New Chief if the winter was going to be cold or mild. Since he was a Red Indian chief in a modern society, he couldn't tell what the weather was going to be.
Nevertheless, to be on the safe side, he replied to his Tribe that the winter was indeed going to be cold and that the members of the village should collect wood to be prepared.
But also being a practical leader, after several days he got an idea. He went to the phone booth, called the National Weather Service and asked 'Is the coming winter going to be cold?' 'It looks like this winter is Going to be quite cold indeed,' the weather man Responded.
So the Chief went back to his people and told them to collect even more Wood. A week later, he called the National Weather Service again. 'Is it going to be a very cold winter?' 'Yes,' the man at National Weather Service again replied, 'It's definitely going to be a very cold winter.'
The Chief again went back to his people and ordered them to collect every scrap of wood they could find. Two weeks later, he called the National Weather Service again. 'Are you absolutely sure that the winter is going to be very cold?' 'Absolutely,' The Man replied. 'It's going to be one of the coldest winters ever.'

We could all learn so much from this elegant and gracious lady. You might recall that John Hinckley was a seriously deranged young man who shot President Reagan in the early 1980's. Hinckley was absolutely obsessed with movie star Jodie Foster, and in his twisted mind, loved Jodie to the point that to make himself well known to her, he attempted to assassinate President Reagan. There is speculation Hinckley may soon be released as having been rehabilitated. Consequently, you will appreciate the following letter from Nancy Reagan to John Hinckley:

Cattle Guards.
For those of you who have never traveled to the West or Southwest, cattle guards are horizontal steel rails placed at fence openings, in dug-out places in the roads adjacent to highways (sometimes across highways), to prevent cattle from crossing over that area. Sometimes they are just painted on the pavement, and not really rails at all. For some reason the cattle will not step on the "guards," probably because they fear getting their feet caught between the rails.
A few months ago, President Obama received a report that there were over 100,000 cattle guards in Colorado . Because Colorado ranchers had protested his proposed changes in grazing policies, he ordered the Secretary of the Interior to fire half of the guards immediately.
Before the Interior Secretary could respond and presumably straighten him out, Vice-President, Joe Biden, intervened with a request that before any guards were fired, they be given six months of retraining.

Theory of everything.
Before I go direct to the main point.
I was thinking about gravity waves. What would make the largest signal?
Two or more black holes falling in to each other, collapsing together. These are singularities of unimaginable masses.
How fast could they rotate? Without friction once they start circling each other they would eventually stale mate and never fall in to each other any further unless there is losses from gravitational drag.
There rotation speeds could be in the trillions of trillions of rpm and doing it with incredible amplitudes. Essentially vibrating the entire universe.
The only way for these two black holes to fall further into each other they must slow down.
This could be done by emitting waves. After all gravity is the only thing that can escape from a black hole. Any matter fall in on itself would start to rotate creating a vortex held open by centrifugal force.
Now imagine the universe as really a giant vibrating table. With time space being the non-Newtonian fluid the wave is traveling within.

Maybe it could be that all matter is self reinforcing patters of material that takes shape because of gravity wave vibrations.
That our perception of the speed of light it the based on the wave length/frequency of these gravity waves.
So is the particle size and life time.
It could be that it's really the vibrations like waves put out in this medium is what creates all particle and matter and governs it's interaction.
In which case the speed of light would be constant over space, but may indeed be varying globally over time depending based on the vibrational field your in.
And that it would be impossible to create small localized fields.
This might explain this whole dark matter and energy. Why galaxies are shaped the way they are etc.
It could also be possible that each galaxy has it's own universal constants derived from the wave frequency and shapes out out from it's regional black holes.
Anyhow it's just a thought. Maybe totally crazy rantings. So don't take these seriously unless I am proven right in 100 years. ;) After all we now have a million monkeys on a million typewrites, all typing, blogs. Eventually one will come out with a right answer.

Lakshmi means to perceive or observe an objective or aim.
Lashmi is the Goddess of Wealth. Not necessarily monetarily although that's how most people take it.
I am starting to think that people have been mis-perceiving or many more like used to have it taught to then in such a way that it effects there thinking and behavior and yet, they don't really see maybe what the original author wrote or intended. I guess it really all a matter of perception. Of where you are observing the text from, a way of thinking about things.
There is a good chance that this drifted from something that was more like Athena, the goddess of wisdom and victory. I think these are really a more the the spirit, or emotion way of thinking. Like feeling patriotic is. Something that is not a flesh and blood physical entity.
I think most of the Hindu gods must really be a very comprehensive inventory of social meme's. Ways of thinking and acting and the paths that they will lead to. This is told in a very open non-western way of viewing the world. The stories of each god it to teach the children to be aware and see certain trends and types of behavior in the world. Of what to avoid to not be tricked or taken in and which ones to look up to. There are good gods, and bad gods with many that are shades of gray. A whole strange and unfamiliar way of viewing morality to those raised as Christians where we have good and evil, sin and non-sin.

I had a dream
When I was a kid over 30 years ago, I was dreaming that a TV technology in the future would obviously be able to instantly access and play almost every music album, TV show and movie ever made. That it would be flat and hang on the wall. And even have a computer as part of it. No it wasn't intelligent or be able to speak, but it would also have video conferencing and CCTV. That this TV would be available almost everywhere, and work on small little devices as well at large screen. That is would also play on a device that is amazing similar to the iPad too, a device that would completely replace books constantly connected to a global network constantly.
As I sit here I am realizing that I have it, right here, right now in front of me. Yea it a bit of a kludge, but it's all here.
I have my PC with an HDMI output graphics card hooked to the HDTV. I canceled my cable, and decided that were are almost there, the point where the Internet could almost replace it. I also have my Internet Enabled Blue Ray player that get's Pandora, YouTube, Netflix and Blockbuster.
All this business with PVR's and recoding shows, it's just dreadful nonsense. I can watch it all now, instantly without any preplanning at all. I have a slider and can just jump forward and backward instantly, sometimes I am stuck with a short commercial, which I can live with.
So far I have be able to watch almost anything that I really had an interest in. Granted some has had to be bit torrented or paid for. Preferable paid for when ever possible. Anyhow the point it there hasn't been a single thing I can think of that I haven't been able to find.
All sorts of hard to find, obscure movies and old TV shows. Current shows. I am sitting here watching Star Trek VII: Generations on Hulu now. It's not the best movie, but I really love classic trek, on the HD set it looks great.
I went through hell to find the smallest cheapest set that can display the video in it's native resolution. Believe it or not there is HD content available over the web now. Some even in 1080p and several sites even streaming in 1080p. It's breathtaking. I have yet to see any Broadcast or Cable TV over 720p. Even though most sets can play video in 1920 x 1080 resolution they have to resize it to fit. the real screen resolution of 1366 x 768 . This really kills the image quality to put it lightly.
Well I made an interesting observation. High end streaming video works seems to work better on even a low end DSL then it did on my cable modem. This came a real shock to me, and would like to test this from a few more sites. Add that to this business where the cable companies were messing with p2p file transfers and for a log time were doing it secretly.

The New 'Move Over' Traffic Law Few Know About
This was in an E-mail to me so I am not sure how accurate this is. Seems to be though.
If a patrol car is pulled over to the side of the road, you have to change to the next lane (away from the stopped vehicle) or slow down by 20 mph.......
Every state except Hawaii and Maryland and the D.C. has this law.
In California, the "Move-over" law became operative on January 1, 2010.

My son got a ticket on Pleasant Hill coming back from Wal-Mart. police car (turned out it was 2 police cars) was on the side of the road giving a ticket to someone else. My son slowed down to pass but did not move into the other lane.
The second police car immediately pulled him over and gave him a ticket. My son and I had never heard of the law. It is a fairly new law that states if any emergency vehicle is on the side of the road, if you are able, you are to move into the far lane.
The cost of the ticket was $754, with 3 points on your license and a mandatory court appearance. I do not know how much the fine is in CA but it is too stiff to not let you know Please let everyone you know that drives about this new law.

Freaky Weather.
Tornadoes in Santa Barbara the past few days. Freaky weather all day. It was warm and sunny when I went to get some lunch. Headding back about 1 block in the wind picked up and was bitter cold like a Minnesota winter. The wind so cold it was burning my skin, suddenly It was like getting hit with a firehose, it pushed me back till I was hold on to a sign post to stay upright. Water so hard and ice cold in my face I couldn't see anything, almost knocking my glasses off. Suddenly back to warm and sunny. All this in less then one minute from start to finish. I was as wet as if I had fallen in a pool, I was soaked to the bone.

I don't use drugs, other than coffee, and a beer or glass of wine now and then. But isn't it a State's Rights matter, as Clarence Thomas wrote? Remember Shays' Rebellion, an armed uprising in central and
western Massachusetts (mainly Springfield) from 1786 to 1787. Now, I'm certainly NOT advocating armed rebellion now. Yet the historical fact is that local residents, seeking debt relief through the issuance of
paper currency and lower taxes, attempted to prevent the courts from seizing property from indebted farmers by forcing the closure of courts in western Massachusetts.
Thomas Jefferson, then an ambassador to France at the time, refused to be alarmed by Shays' Rebellion. In a letter to a friend, he wrote that "a little rebellion now and then is a good thing. The tree of liberty
must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."
The uprising was the climax of a series of events of the 1780s that convinced a powerful group of Americans that the national government needed to be stronger so that it could create uniform economic
policies and protect property owners from infringements on their rights by local majorities. Ever since, there is a strong Federal government, willing to fire on U.S. citizens to enforce its dictates.
Here we are in 2010, with high and increasing taxes, with indebted farmers, with 1/4 of homeowners properties worth less than their mortgage debt, and with a centralized government that has, for
instance, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), which was renamed the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and transferred to the Department of Justice under the Homeland
Security Act.
Families who grew their own tobacco, or brewed their own liquor, are just out of luck. It is our history. Who are we to say that Jefferson was wrong?

Haiti
Dec 26, 2004 Sumatra 225000 dead and we thought that was a lot. These counts are going to keep increasing. How many must have died in Haiti of just starvation in the past year! People eating Mud Pies! It's not like there some sort of Aliens who like eating mud. Why? To at least have something in there stomachs! How F**king bad must it have been. This quake may actually been a blessing to get us to finally look up at them. They have been desperately screaming for some time.
Just wait till it's our turn! Who do you think will give a shit about us? After looking at New Orleans it ain't looking too good. FEMA been ordering body bags and internment camps.
I am just straining to imaging what Pat Robinson could have been thinking. I guess the sin was the greed and that allows for shoddy construction, the unpreparedness of the government and their already desperate conditions in place. But who's sin was it to commit? Could it be the rich? Could it have been those under them that went along with it. Was it the working class that just accepted it? Could it be that of the poorest, clearly we can't hear them? Could it have been ours? Or those of the French founders 100's of years ago?
I fear it's going to take a little more then money to wash this blood off.

Just got a new DSL line from DSLExtreme.com
I am in Goleta, Ca. I ordered the service on 1/4/10 the modem came in the mail 1/12/10. Plugged it in and it worked straight out. They sent me a D-Link DSL-2320B modem.
It's PPPoE which I think is the most pointless protocol ever invented.
3000/768kbps on a 12 Months Contract for $25 a month.
I don't have phone service since I just use skype and my cell phone. So I was worried if there was going to be any problems, but it all worked out. Just took a little longer to get my line in.

Being 40+ years old now and watching technology my whole life starting computers at 7 it's something I am very in tune with.
If you want to see how it's going to change in the future you can just extrapolate from the past.
First let's point out that the internet is a common method for moving datagrams (IP packets, block of data up to 1500 bytes at a time), much like the postal service ships individual letter. On top of this stream connections using (TCP) are created and most of what we see is built on this.
The point is, there are no limitations over what can be sent, or the format.
So telepresents, virtual reality, haptics, Remote control of UAV's, skys the limit on what can be sent over this network.
I remember the Internet clearly as it was 30 years ago. As a hacker breakin in to it was the most LEET Thing on could do back in 1980.
Let me put a little time line down to put things in to perspective.
1969 CompuServe started.
1972 C Programming Language invented.
1980 -- there was no TCP/IP even is was NCP, no unix servers and it was the DARPANET. It was all 300 Baud Modems! UUCP and Email was there.
1983 BSD 4.2 Unix came out with first tcp/ip stack in . C++ first developed.
Modems and BBS's ruled at this time (sort of like when dinosaurs roamed the earth)
1984 Apple Macintosh first released.
1985 "thin" Ethernet first comes out (uses BNC Coax)
1987 Perl released.
1988 Linksys founded. First Internet Worm get's loose, create massive panic! (Robert Tappan Morris)
1990 -- there was no www, html, , it was telnet, ftp, gopher, Archie First Internet search engine starts.
10Base-T first comes out.
1992 Wais search engine starts.
1992 Tim Berards Lee came out with www and html.
1993 Mosaic the first "graphical" web browser. Before this it was all console text based !!!!!
WiFi was invented. Linux and FreeBSD first Released. Lycos search engine starts.
1994 14.4K modems first started to appear. WebCrawler search engine starts. VRML web based virtual reality.
1995 Yahoo and Altavista search engines start. Vocaltec first VOIP comes out. JAVA released.
1995/6 is when the internet boom started. 28.8K modems appear.
1997 Google & E-Bay started. 36.6K and 56Kmodems appear. PHP first comes out. Netflix starts. 100Base-T first comes out.
1998 Voip is 1% of all phone traffic.
